Aspen Matthews returns in this weekly series that will put all the pieces into play for the biggest story in Fathom’s 15 year history.

Aspen is being brought back into the world she’s trying to escape from.  Killian’s family is missing and there is no force above or under water that can stop a father on a mission.  Finally Kiani, everyone’s favorite warrior from the deep, is imprisoned but she’s been in tougher spots and overcome the odds. All of this in the first issue!

One of the things I love about Aspen Comics is the world building.  Each series has their own rules, their own places, and its obvious that the writers have a mental map of all the locations that will come to matter in their storylines.  Fathom has always been one of the best and most imaginative of the titles and this issue is no exception.  There is an entirely new part of the ocean seen in this issue with a whole new — hell it may as well be a whole new country with its own unique people, clothing, architecture, markets — all of it.  Aspen Comics should look into some licensing with these ideas because a Fathom RPG full of quests that could take place in any of these under sea cities would be a lot of fun.

Marion is new to Aspen Comics but you wouldn’t know it.  He nails these long loved characters on first try and adds his own touches to them all.  Aspen looks beautiful and strong, a must for any Aspen Comics artist and yet a rare thing for so many in comics.  Add Marion to the list of artists who can make the ladies look good and powerful.  He is also a perfect compliment to the writing team.  I have told all three writers how much I love the nuances in their work and this is no different.  There are many looks and smirks and even body language throughout the comic which hint at true motivations which will no doubt be exposed later.

Finally my pleas have been answered and an incredible new exciting title from my favorites is coming out each and every week.  No more waiting 30 days in anticipation.  Stay tuned for reviews of the next issues of what’s fast becoming the hot summer title.
